At the moment I am using a 3rd party plugin to achieve a post with 6 thumb nails. Upon hovering and clicking they pop up into a larger picture. To be honest I'd prefer to stay with Gavick plugins only so am I able to achieve the same or similar effect with GK Imageshow? ;)

Hi,

With GK Image Show it will be difficullt, better use GK News Show Pro with specified columns, rows and only images enabled or GK Portfolio, and then change some CSS to achieve this hover effect.
But in these cases you'll have to use featured images from posts so it's not a perfect solution.

Thank you Piotr. I also thought about the GK News Show Pro which I am using on the home page and I like how the featured image works but I don't want to create posts for each image (as with GK Portfolio) for my gallery posts. The hover effect doesn't matter; It's just the gallery style I'd like on each photography article. Otherwise I'll stay with this 3rd party plugin and who knows ... perhaps Gavick will come up with something new in the future! ;) ;)

Hi,

With our latest theme - MSocial we also released GK Grid widget.
http://demo.gavick.com/wordpress/msocia ... s/gk-grid/
You can download it here or from quickstart/rest files package of MSocial theme.

I think, that it can be aslo used to create a nice gallery.

Is Github a third party developer or is this Gavick? This could be what I'm looking for ;)

GitHub is only a web-based hosting service for software development projects that use the Git revision control system.

So, all our public projects (with GK Grid plugin) are available here: https://github.com/GavickPro.

Thanks Piotr

I'm actually installing and checking our msocial as I write this. It looks very good. I'll reply back once I understand how this works ;)

Do you have set up instructions on this. I have a good idea now on how to set up the grid within widgets but how do I add images?

I understand I have to add the 'source' in the widget but how do I create the 'source'

My goal is to create a simple gallery of images and I see that they can come from featured image! I just can't get around the 'source' part ;)

http://demo.gavick.com/wordpress/msocia ... s/gk-grid/
http://demo.gavick.com/wordpress/msocia ... -elements/
check grid elements section.

and samle configuration:
http://demo.gavick.com/wordpress/msocia ... ration-ii/
http://demo.gavick.com/wordpress/msocia ... uration-i/

You can choose e.g. GK Grid I as a source and then add any widget to GK Grid I widget area. E.g. to add photos, put Text widgets with e.g. this content (you don't need featured images from articles):
Code: Select all
<div class="gk-photo">

<a href="[pageurl]/activity" style="background-image: url('[pageurl]/wp-content/themes/Msocial/images/demo/1.jpg');"></a>

<h3 class="gk-status-text-bottom gk-statust-text-light"><a href="[pageurl]/activity">BuddyPress Activity Wall - New GK BP widget</a></h3>

</div>

You can remove h3 if you don't need this.

I can see slightly where I'm going wrong. I'm going to look silly but ..... 'how do I add a text widget' to the GK Grid?

Thanks for your excellent support by the way

GK Grid I is a normal widget area like Bottom I or Mainbody, so you can drag and drop Text widget to GK Grid I position.

Let me explain:
1. You choose GK Grid and drag and drop to e.g. Header widget area position.
2. Choose e.g. GK Grid I position as a data source in GK Grid config.
3. Add a few blocks (plus icon in GK Grid config).
4. Let's say you created 4 blocks.

5. Now you have to leave GK Grid configuration and add 4 widgets to GK Grid I position (e.g. Text widget or TItle overlay or others)

Widgets from GK Grid I position won't be visible directly on the website, they are used only as a GK grid source.

Thanks Piotr. It's making sense now I read your post alongside looking into the admin area. I've already added changed images etc which is working perfectly.

Last question (I hope)

Can I have 5 pages with different images e.g. in the Grid IV

I assume I cannot!

I'ts possible, but you have to use another GK Grid widget and another source widget position (you can also use Widget rules in GK Grid).
So you should create another GK Grid and use e.g. GK Grid II position as a source (and put there text widgets with other images)

If you don't have enough GK Grid position, you can use "Amount of sidebars" option from GK Grid widget, then save GK Grid settings and refresh your widget's page.

Thanks again. This is all really coming together.

I noticed in the msocial demo there is a widget called 'GK Grid Title Overlay' but I'm trying to create the grid in 'Creativity' where I installed this plugin but this widget doesn't show. To be honest I quite like the featured image set up!

GK Title Overlay was prepared only for MSocial theme, so if you want to use it in e.g. Creativity you'll have a lot of work probably..

Here is similar case with GK NSP widget:

I think it best to install the msocial theme ... it's a cool theme anyway! Does Gavick Pro have plans to continue using GK Grid for new themes?

That's it for now Piotr as you have spent quite a bit of time answering my posts.

I'll continue this week on my local host to practice creating different grids etc.

Thanks again :)

That's great to hear. It's more complex to understand and work on but for the end result it's well worth it! I completed the home page today and their were no problems! Looks cool too!

I haven't added this to my photography site yet as I believe the images don't pop up when clicked on!

Thanks again Piotr ... you've been very patient.
