Hello,

we are still trying to migrate from Joomla 1.5 using Coolfoto to Joomla 2.5 using Creativity.
We bought SH404SEF to rewrite the URls. It works.

We have decided not to use Joomfish for the site translation. Too many problems with K2 component.
We have decided to use the Joomla multilanguage feature because it offers us a great thing: creating menu in English that should not be visible in French.
But we have some problems.

We read carefully this post: http://www.gavick.com/forums/140/multilanguage-2-5-e-sport-13901.html
We tried what it is explained but it does not work.

Here is the website address: http://www.guillenphoto.com/cms2/
The default language is French.
We have implemented the language switcher between French and English in the header position.
We do not understand how to create a main menu and a submenu for each language. Everytime we click the home menu, we go to the French version.
We did some tests but everytime we are in the french version. The problem we have is how to set up the templates with the two different menus.
We have removed all the changes we did to start from the scratch.
Please would you check the website and tell us how to do?
If you need we can give you access to the backend.

I hope that you will help us.

Hello,

thank you for your reply.
I follow your guidelines word for word.
I spent all my day trying to figure out how to set up the multi languages with creativity.
Finally, I can not move forward.

Please would you check my website: http://www.guillenphoto.com/cms2/

If you click on the flags in the language switcher you always be in French. Why? because this is the default language. If I set the default language to English, every time you click on both flah, I am in English.
In fact, all the action on the flags shows the default language.
I have removed and reinstalled joomla several times thinking it was a problem of me.
Would you please help us? We can not move forward to the migration if we have that problem.

Thanks in advance
Amar

Hello,

Finally, I found the problem.
It comes from the component SH404SEF. If the component is active, the language switcher is not working.
If the component is not active, everything is fine.
So I am going to contact anything digital about that problem.
You can close the question.

Thanks for all

We've noticed several problems with this extension, probably when SH404SEF is enabled Joomla! can't detect the language frontpage menu item, the similar problem can be with our templates and hide/show mainbody on frontpage option.

When using SH404SEF in a multi language site, you have to
1. disable the plugin "System - Language Filter".
2. enable the option "Enable multilingual support" in SH404SEF.

And everything works perfectly.
We spent 3 full days to figure out the solution.

The multi language feature in 2.5 is more powerful than Joomfish or other component for translation but it is very complicated to set up.

Thanks for your help.
