change background color of custom html

The background of modules is grey or white. I've looked at the differences between the two but can't find the way to change it.

How do I change the background?

There you will see some modules have grey and other white background

If You add suffix: greybg to a module, it will have grey background, if not - the background will be white (default).

Thanks for your reply. This worked, but only to a fixed width of the page, and is not scaled automatically.

Yes. That is true, because some modules "and positions" are designed to work on entire width, and some only on "middle" column - then only background inside this "middle" column can be changed.
