This is my fourth installation. First was J3Quickstart (MySQL 5.0), then was J3, then the template, then the modules, the third was J3Quickstart (MySQL 5.5) and now I am trying this on J2.5.14Quickstart. This is on GoDaddy hosting.

Everything to my knowledge works properly, except NSP.

First off, the Quickstart, whether it be J2.5 or J3, isn't just like the demo. The top 7 NSP tiles are set to the same K2 article, with all the same image.

The first few installations, the site would give me a 0:error 0 (crash) if I deleted the wrong article and would display trashed articles, then 404 when you clicked on them. Same with Joomla articles, if I messed with those, the site would crash. Joomla articles wouldn't even load! You'd see the page URL change to the article URL, but in reality the front page would still be displayed. Articles sometimes wouldn't display if the Data Source was set to either Joomla or K2 catorgories.

I've had to rethink how I want to display articles a few times, and I've came to the conclusion that the best way to put articles on the front page, is to set the Data Source to Joomla Articles, then plug in the article ID for the module I want it to be displayed it.

Well that is where the problem lies with this installation. Like before, it will display the on the front for the module I want it in, but it will not load the Joomla article page, just the home page with the article's URL. I tried add a "Read More" button, but that won't display. If I change it to a K2 item, again the read more button will not show, but you can click the thumbnail or title and it will take you to the K2 article.

I mean I am not a stupid person, I've been working with Joomla for about 3 years now, so I don't think I am doing something wrong to make it not work...by the heavens, it should work, but isn't!

This is day 3 of me trying to build what should be an easy website, I'm pulling out my hair here!

HELP!!!!

Do you use cache? Did you try disable all News Show Pro modules and just create new module?

To keep things less complicated, we will use only this thread.

Working with J3Quickstart, GoDaddy, MySQL 5.5, PHP 5.3

After any changes I made, I checked the cache, but there was nothing to be deleted.

I also changed the cache setting within the module to 0 minutes.

There are a few different cache extensions installed, as shown here...well, your forum doesn't allow for larger images, so I hosted on my site, check link for image.

http://www.flamestonemusic.com/gk/cache.PNG

I then tried to disable and then recreate the module.

So I disabled the Inset NSP module, then created a new module>NSP, changed the position to RockWall>Inset, set the data source as Joomla articles, and set it to display a new Joomla article that I just published...and the site crashes.

By crash, I mean this: http://www.flamestonemusic.com/gk/crash.PNG

If I change the module to display an article that came with the Quickstart package, the site will load properly.

The same thing happens with K2...set the module to display an article that came with Quickstart, it works, change it to an article that you just created, the site crashes.

I've already checked on the matter of featured articles, that has nothing to do with it.

Pretty much said, you tell the module to display a certain article, and it is supposed to display it. The problem is the module is not recognizing new articles, and since it is trying to display something that it doesn't recognize, the site crashes.

I would try and go with just the template, not Quickstart, but I am having problems with the modules not positioning properly. Quickstart is supposed to make it simple to get a site going...but it ain't!

Continued...

I have even uninstalled the extension, then reinstalled it.

The standalone version that is available for download on the website is not the same version as in the Quickstart package, it has some additional features.

It still does the same thing. Demo articles will be displayed, but only when it is set to Standard Mode, and not Title Mode which it was set at before reinstalling.

Further, the when you click on the article, it will load the URL of the article, and it will kindof go there, but the NSP modules that I recreated will still be showing, but nothing from the article will show. Though the Image Show GK4 module will not show after clicking on an article.

Doesn't matter what browser I am using either.

I'd also thought to try and see if I had the same problem on different hosting account with another company...so I registered a domain I use for testing, but the Joomla installer got stuck when I click the next button on the first page, it would never load the connect to database page, just would keep scrolling the loading worm. Not sure if that is the host's fault or not...but it didn't work.

Also tried using NSP v4...same problem...site will crash when using a newly created article.

Also thought it may have something to do with categories, so I change the category of an article to the category of a pre-existing article that NSP will display, but that didn't work either.

It really looks like something is wrong with your hosting. Please try to disable SEF URL's and mod_rewrite, maybe URL's are not generated properly. I think the only solution is to look at server and Joomla! error logs, could you paste latest errors from this logs here?

That did make sense, unfortunately, it didn't work. Makes sense because when SEF URL's were enabled on an older installation of our, completely unrelated to RockWall, our site would crash. But on here, it was enabled, I disabled...no change. From what I found mod_rewrite was changed to Use URL rewriting, correct? That was already disabled.

The log folder only had error.php, which when I went there, all it said was #Forbidden and the index.html page was blank. There were no other log files or anything.

I was looking through the forum and found a thread about a user having the same problems as I am having.

https://www.gavick.com/forums/members/220451.html

User normanUK suggested that the problem may be: "It is probably time difference between article date/time and modules query date/time."

Which does make sense, since I created a new article earlier today and the site would crash when I assigned the module to display that article...now, several hours later, the site is up, displaying the article that I had created earlier. I did still however have the problem with the article not loading, but the URL being changed to that of the article. But when I created yet another new article just now, and set the module to display it, the site crashed.

I unfortunately do not know how to fix this.

Please change offset settings in all News Show Pro modules to -12 or +12 it depends of the difference. Please also check timezone settings in global Joomla! configuration.

I set the Time Zone in Global Config to New York, which is UTC -5, then I changed all NSP modules to +12 offset.

That part seems to work now. New articles seem to display after I created them and set the module to display them.

I still have the problem with some articles not loading, just the URL will change, but will still be on the home page. However, the article I created last this morning will load, but not newer articles. Tried changing the date created and date published to a few days ago for the newest article I made, but that didn't work.

After a little bit more work, I found that only articles under the "Videos" Joomla category will load. Videos is a category from the demo...so I saved it as a copy, and renamed the two newer copies of the Videos category something else. But that still won't work for some reason.

But what will work is if the articles are located in categories that were packaged in the Quickstart aka demo data. (Videos, Demo Content and Subcategory I (of Demo Content))

As for the Read More button, I am guess it doesn't display on the Inset NSP as a matter of design, because it shows up under Mainbody NSP and sidebar.

OK, so demo data is somehow required, and I can't use my own categories. Otherwise, the articles will not load.

That is the last problem I think we have to figure out. If I want to add another category down the road, I would like it to, you know, actually work.

Yeah, I'm not sure why, but the problem with the article not loading is only with Joomla articles...works fine with K2.

I unpublished then trashed every K2 category and article, created 2 new categories and 2 new articles, each article in one of the new categories and BAM!!! It works. Unfortunately I do not care too much for K2. I only plan on using K2 for one category, just our member's profiles...all other news and content will be done with Joomla...which I tried again, and it still doesn't work...page not loading when articles are placed in newly created categories.

EDIT...

Actually, come to think of it, I may end up using K2 more than I thought...managed to figure a few things out with it.

But just in case, I'd like to figure out why it won't work for Joomla articles.

I take it that you all don't work/post on the weekends?

Well, I've been working more with this...and I just keep finding more issues. It is nothing that I can't seem to work around though, just problems with how it acts.

These are the now known issues:

1. When setting a NSP module to use Joomla articles, if articles are not place in Joomla categories that were part of the Quickstart package, then the articles will not load if you click on them. URL will change, but you will remain on the home page. Since I don't plan on using Joomla articles, this won't be a major problem, but would still like it fixed.

2. When the SEF URL option is turned on, all K2 articles are shown to be in one particular trashed AND deleted K2 category, which came with the Quickstart package. And the categories that I am creating are NEW, not copies of another category. To avoid visitor confusion, I can just keep SEF URL disabled, though I would like to enable it later if we can fix this.

Like I said, these are minor problems that I can work around...but I would like to have them fixed if possible.

Solution for your problem is available here http://www.gavick.com/documentation/questions/how-to-make-links-working/

K2 articles are shown to be in one particular trashed AND deleted K2 category

Option to show unathorized items is enabled in your News Show Pro configuration?

Please let me know about the links. The items from trash should not be visible but maybe it is cache issue. Do you use any cache plugins?
