Main Menu Split Menu Items using Menu Perams gavick

I normally know how to do this in joomla 2.5, but with Joomla 3.0 i can't get this to work.

I want to have a parent menu item have a drop down of 2 columns and under those columns, have the appropriate links.

I created the main parent menu item as a text seperator and in menu perams set it to 2 columns and no grouping.

Then i created another text seperator menu item, tagged it under the first menu item and set it to column 1 and i set group to yes. I did this for on more menu item, but the second menu item falls right under the first and does not put it in column 2. I've done this for joomla 2.5 but am i missing somehting.

Please make sure that first childs of the parent (which is set to two columns) are set as a 'group'.

I did check the 2 menu items that should be columns as a group and still does not work. I also went into the template config to see if there was anywhere there where i need to select the menu type and change it to gavick menu, but i didn't see anything. Can i give you admin access to the site so you can look for yourself.

By the way i am using Rockwall template for joomla 3.0
