VM Availability image not showing

1) I configured the VM webshop: Products Out of Stock are orderable, and the field 'Availability' below is displayed. Then I select an image (e.g. on-order.jpg).

2) In the backend, product stock is set to "0". And no availability image is selected. Otherwise the image selected in 1 is overwritten.

Instead of showing the image selected in step 1, the product detailpage (frontend) shows text (image name | on-order.jpg) but not the image!

What is your template version? Do you use latest release?
