z-index or transparent background on facebook likebox

Hi! Love this template and used it to convert an older website that was custom coded to joomla. (I couldn't deviate from the old design though, so it looks vastly different from simplicity.

In Firefox, when I click on the facebook likebox, the background merges with the article content. I tried adding a white background and upping the z-index in various places, but nothing helped. Any thoughts?

See the attachment for an example, because I temporarily disabled the fb button on the live site.
