Any recommendation for editors to use? Preferable non-commercial and simple to use inside Joomla.

Depends if You are on Mac or PC, and how much would You like to sacrifice speed and usability to gain free software.
There are free Aptana, Eclipse, NetBeans, but those are quite big working environments, simple notepad++, and more advanced payed Coda, Expresso etc.
You could also try searching in google ;)

Good points. I'm on PC. I thought Simplicity would have it own editor to change "Start 30-Day free trial today. Set up in instant". I'm just trying to keep it simple.

There is a big difference between CMS WYSIWYG editors (TinyMCE implemented) and editor for core files that is being used by developers.
