Menu trouble

Hi, having a little trouble with the menu look.

At the moment, the main menu works, however it just 'flips' out, whereas the demo shows a nice slide & fade effect. I checked the template settings, however it appears to be set to 'Slide and fade'.

Any suggestions to what i may have altered to lose this effect?

Secondly, I tried adding a second menu to the 'inset' area of the template. (Used a duplicate of the mainmenu) However, it seems to go wrong, with everything in one long list and everything being highlighted when the mouse is hovered over. Please see attachment to the example.

Any idea what i can do to fix this?
