with an image quality of 65% and the images (jpgs) stripped down with photoshop, the module itself keeps on being super slow..... my version is from <1.22 but this shouldn't be the problem?

please try update module to the latest version. Just in case do backup before and let us know if problem still exist. Becasue I checked on my chrome and it loads as usual.
