new products module in combination with custom fields = fail

hi there

i have a module "latest products" on the front page. You can push the "+" icon, and the article is in your cart. However, i put some custom fields as Size and Color to it, which are now being completely ignored by the proces !

what to do now, can the "+" (add to cart) icon be hidden or linked to just the details page first? the current set up will be a total pain for "quick buyers", as they now add something to the cart without specifying color or size options.

Please disable "add to cart" and enable "read more", this would work as a link to the prodact.
