Hi.

I am considering using the News template on a site I am going to make, but wanted to ask some questions first.

1. Is it possible to add modules in the two menus in the template and make it look something like the attached picture?

2. The main module on the front page, does it catch items from K2 by putting them on Featured, or do you have to add them manually?

3. The main module on the front page, is it possible to make it catch items from RSS feeds?

4. The main module on the front page, next to the big image of Obama, on the right side the articles are listed in it with only titles. Is it possible that it lists them with both the titles and thumbnails?

Thank you for answering.

Hi

1. You forgot about the picture, but I'm guessing You mean inside submenu modules: https://www.gavick.com/documentation/un ... s-in-menu/ , https://www.gavick.com/documentation/un ... into-menu/

2. You can configure it to show all K2 items and than restrict it to show Featured only.

3. Newest version of this module has such option. But it's a new option and there were couple of reports of problem which are being fixed. Anyway You can always use joomla to put rss into articles and than use our module to display this articles.

4. Yes, it's NSP module. It has the most options to present content than any other extention.

4.

Sounds great. Will the RSS issue be solved in a month maybe? And also, will it be possible to add RSS feeds to the other modules showing on front page? That would have been awesome.

Hi

Please try to use RSS already. It only has problems with some of the feeds. Highly possible it will work fine with the one You need. What other modules You have in mind.

Thanx!

I was thinking about the ones titled:

All stories
Breaking News
Latest News

On the front page here: http://demo.gavick.com/joomla25/news/

Can they get content from RSS feeds as well?

And is it possible to choose wheter the RSS feed link will open in a new window or not?

Hi

Each module can show different feeds. Unfortunately no option to open in a new window.

Hi

In NSP configuration for article layout try set more pages to appear than activate auto-animation.

Is it possible for the main front page module with the Obama picture to both catch articles from differen RSS feeds in addition to k2 article categories? I mean can it have more than one source? That would be awesome.

Hi

No it can't, sorry. Only one source per module, but You can use a second module close to this one. Or convert one of the source like rss feed to K2 category and display articles from 2 categories than.

I understand. To convert the rss feed content into articles will not be the ideal solution for me because I want to direct traffic to mye other sites.

Anyway, I installed the quick start, but it contains the GK4 module and not GK5. I tried to update it but that messes up the module. Can you please help me to update the modules to GK5 or maybe send a new quic start with GK5 in it?

Hi

Showing feed will not affect the traffic of other sites. Maybe if You would use an iframe to show part of the site there.

Updating to GK5 may be hard, because template lacks style for it. Anyway if You will decide to use the feed converted to articles than it will not matter which version You use since it will be using regular joomla articles as source.

Hi. Using an iframe etc. will not work because I don't want to open another site in my site, I want the to ridirect people to mye different sites.

The reason I started this thread was to to find out whether this template had the RSS function and you confirmed that it does, and you also told me to test it out. So it was understood that GK5 is compatible with the template, otherwise our communication makes no sence. So I installed the quick start and have planned my whole site based on RSS and this template. Now you are saying that it is not compatible. Because I based my whole project and lots of time planning the site on this communication with you, I hope that you will be so kind and make the template compatible with GK5. I would be very thankful!

Hi

What? I'm sorry but I do not understand what You are saying.

Template itself has nothing to do with RSS but there is a lot of ways to make it use it:

- With joomla feed component which I was thinking about, but You said You cannot use it I just cannot understand why
- With any module capable of displaying RSS feed. NSP GK5 is one of them and You are free to use it, but it will not look as nice as NSP GK4 which has a special style designed for this template, that's all. I've never said it will not work
- With some 3rd paty feed components and Feedgator for example

So just go on with Your iea and use NSP GK5 module, just remove any GK4 version of it since those are the same modules basicaly and using same resources which may result in conflict.

I think it is very clear from our conversation that you said that the main module with the Obama picture in the demo, can catch RSS feeds. As I understand that is only possible with GK5. So GK5 must of course be compatible with the template, otherwise I don't understand why you would say that the modules in this template can catch RSS feeds.

Hi

I only said that GK5 module does not have a style prepared for this template as GK4 version does, but it still can be used, You just need to select the look from one of the available styles or tweak it a little bit in css. Just go ahead and use GK5.

The only problem I can think of is GK4 conflicts with GK5 in some occasions, so I would advice to remove GK4 if You will use GK5.

I hope it's clear now.
