What is the best plugin to improve the performance of the site with the News:
JS CSS Control or ScriptMerge
Any other suggestions?

Hi, did you try Compress CSS files and JavaScript CSS files options from template settings ? You can find them in 'Advanced Settings' section.

The site seems to get slower ... And when lilgo the System Cache, the site is faster, but the raw slow to appear on the site...

In your case please try use 3rd extensions you mention at the begining. I think both are good. Just test both and check which one is better for you.
