How can I show top navigation?

I am publishing a menu in the top navigation position but it does not show, what do I need to do?

What kind of module you use ? mod_menu ? Could show us an example ?

I want to use a horizontal menu or just place a custom html module there to show navigation like there is in the footer.

I see that navigation is disabled right now probably now you know that it was a simple mod_menu module published on this template position.
