How to add widgets to Full Page template

I'm trying to slice sections in my pages and I'm having difficulty adding the widgets to the pages. Can I add widgets to the full page or do I need to start with a different core template?

Yes, you can add widgets on the full-width page template, but please remember that on this template the sidebar widget area is unavailable.
