Does this template support virtuemart "call for pricing when price is blank"?

I have set this in the config but although the price is not showing the call for pricing is not showin geither

Yes the "Call for price" should be visible when it is properly configured in VirtueMart, to make sure that your configuration is fine please switch template to 'Beez' and check result. If on beez you will see this information please send me details via PM (with link to this forum thread) and let here know about problem.

I replaced all the html/com_virtuemart with the ones from the template rather than the quickstart and now it seems to work.

Obviously something missing in the quickstart files

Maybe you have installed quickstart before the update for VirtueMart was released ?
