Hi,

My issue is that on my test site lpc.truesolutions.ca I am using three (will be four) instances of the great Gamenews template:
One is default and assigned to the white 'splash' (urgh!) page.
One is assigned to all the menus/modules under the Gathering Community.
One is assigned to all the menus/modules under the Place Community.

This is going well (easy change of backgrounds, colors, logos etc) BUT for when certain components are activated within one assigned template then their output changes to the default template.

Examples:
1) Place>Classifieds (top menu)>click on a category (Kunena)
2) Place>Staff directory (top menu)>click on single contact (Contacts)
3) Place> Coming Soon (frontpage module)>click event title (Ohanah)
4) Place>Events (main menu item)> calendar module> click on date (Ohanah)
5) Place > Latest talks (tab module)> click on talk title (Preachit)

It appears that these would all be linked.

Any ideas?

Importantly, all instances of News Show Pro on clicking the link to the K2 item, go out of assigned template to the default (white).

(I'll stop commenting now...)

Hi

I believe it can be connected with a style of a template being stored in cookie. If You have not changed the name of a cookie file while renaming template than it may be loading the same style as it was choosen for the other template. This value is stored in function getTemplateStyle in helper.layout.php file

Hey,

Unfortunately that has not helped... (can you try my site, and you will see that it is not browser cookies, and I don't believe the server keeps any?) Anyway I put on the EU option on the template, and included a refresh... Nothing happened.

But it got me thinking and then checking... all of my issues arise when there is not a direct breadcrumb trail to the K2 item/preachit sermon/ ohanah event...? (e.g. the Belo news item has a trail and works correctly)

Another thing that was connected, clicking on a Single Contact from the Place Community (TopNav - staff directory) assigned template, gave the white default template when I was fussing with assigning templates, but now it assigns it "the Gathering" template...

Hi

Ok. This link thing is a real clue :) I believe an attachement of a template is not working correctly. Please send me an access to Your joomla panel and I'll see if menu structure is correct.

Hi

Ok. The reason and solution to Your problem is described here: https://www.gavick.com/documentation/qu ... s-working/

You just need to create couple of menu items so joomla will not be confused which page to display.

Unfortunately this isn't the fix for me, as I have different templates drawing items from the same K2 category... but it has started me in the right direction. I think that by buying K2 Multi Category extension I will be able to put K2 items into multiple categories and then assign those categories purely to one template (as per your doc).

I still have issues with other modules but that isn't your problem ;-)

Thanks

Hi Again,
I have got fixes from the Ohanah Events and Preachit Messages Modules, and workarounds for Classifieds and Kunena.

From Preachit "The Preachit modules allow you to set the menu item for the links. This is a more solid solution than auto detecting as the module is often published on pages that don't have Preachit component content. This means that you will need to set this in the module set up options for it to use the itemid."

So I realize that unless the component picks up the itemid it struggles...

With NewsShowPro... I tried the Multiple K2 Categories component as a fix... but even though NSP shows me I can select any category... it only picks up the first defined category.

Any last ideas or fixes before I have to duplicate all my K2 items (news) which would not be ideal...

Hi

I still think that it's about correct Itemid. NSP is using an Item id of a page where article was clicked if there were no different id specified for exmple other category. If there will be a new Itemid for each category than the ability to attache a template to it will exists.

But my issue is that I have K2 items in one category that I want shown in two instances of NewsShowPro in two different templates (this is fine).

However when I click on the item, it shows in just one (assigned) template.

i.e. One newsshow module works (stays within template)
e.g. http://lpc.truesolutions.ca/index.php?o ... Itemid=743 then click on 'LENT FOR ALL'

The other doesn't (on click the item is shown in other template).
see http://lpc.truesolutions.ca/index.php?o ... Itemid=101 then click on same item.

This was solved by the other modules that took Itemid from the menu item of the page the module is found on.

I did try multiple versions of the hidden menu fix for both templates....?

Hi

Ok. Now I get it. Sorry, I was thinking You have a separated category for each template. This way I would use tags and tag view to separate this into 2 pages or subcategories. But there will be more work with it than by using the module You have.

Going crazy with this...

Using the same links as in the thread, I set up two hidden menus under the two required templates (place, gathering) with k2 tag view items (Joomla API fix menus), then changed the two 'homepage' NSPs to display only the appropriate tag (Place or Gathering), then ensured that the first items shown even were uncategorized.

But all of them when clicked display the default template. They are not picking up a fix (re: your quickstart suggestion)... they are still looking first for what template is assigned from the category (or lack of ...)

Any last ideas before I give up...

Hi

Yes what You are trying to do is really hard. First of all tags pages got the lowest priority in ItemID, but I'm not sure if it cannot be forced if this page will have a smaller ID than category page. But this is something which probably will not work so better not wast time to check it.

I think the most solid solution will be to pack this articles into 2 categories, than each column should have it's own menu id. Sorry but I simply do not see a better solution. If You want to have them in one, than maybe a category view configured to show from 2 categories will do.

Hi Teit,
I installed the Multi=categories component again, and set everything up (please take a quick look if you can)... so that there is a hidden category view menu item under both Place and Gathering homepages, and the NewsShowPro is configured to pull from either News/Place or News/Gathering respectively.

The menus are pulling the right multicatgory K2 items, but the NewsShowPro only works on the Place site. When a k2 item (see Place Latest 1, or Gathering Latest 1) has been configured to two categories, NSP only sees 'the first category' (in this case the Place category) - it ignores the second one... even though K2 category view sees it...

Is there a NSP fix for this?

This is the end of the line for this issue (you'll be glad to know)... if you haven't got anything for me I'll have to try another news module...

Hi

Now I understand why You have this problem :) It's the first time You;ve mentioned multi catogory extension. This is an extended functionality for K2, but NSP is not aware of it. This would reguire changes to NSP code, but even than how to specifie to which category should view should this module be linking to ? It can link to one only. Which means that You will need to have one of this categories as main. And I bet all of them got the same category in this place. Unfortunately I think that this module is not the best for this kind of behavior. You need a module which uses Itemid in link our is using an article link and trusts joomla to open it under correct menu item. What You need is to percise link from module itself.

Thanks for the time. I didn't start with a multi-category component but tried it last Thursday as a work-around fix. I'd still love to use NSP so I might just resort to a quick copy of relevant news item into different categories :(

Until next time...

Hi

Ok. Anyway this is hell of a problem. Unfortunately more joomla related than module. I've always found this particular joomla behavior as a limitation.
