Add module position next to logo

I'm trying to add a module position where the the register button next to the logo is. I followed https://www.gavick.com/documentation/joomla-extensions/how-to-add-new-module-position/ in the Gavickpro Documentation, but I think it may be outdated. It mostly worked but after making the changes I can't access the template settings in the administration section. I notice after I add the new position to templateDetails.xml it breaks access to the template settings. Are there new instructions for the newer responsive templates?

Please check file permissions to templateDetails.xml file and make sure that file after you changes is valid. I suspect that some tag is not closed which destroy XML structure and causing problems.
