About Open Graph Metatags settings on the post page in the backend.
Can you explain in a few words why we should take time to fill this and what's the use of it ?
And also, why is the image link always broken ? Can we fix that ? It looks amateurish.

This is a screen capture of a post article editing area showing the Open Graph Metatags fields.

Og tags are mosty for sharing links to your page to Facebook. Fb uses this data to create entry about shared page. Try login into Facebook and placing link to your page into post to your wall edit box - it will load information about shared page - and with OG tags you can specify what exactly they will look like.

If it goes to picture, I'll check that for You.

The picture is only broken when you start typing a new post. If you upload a picture, a new picture replace the broken link. As you can see below. But it's the fact that the picture is broken when you first arrive on the new post editing page that I find confusing.

Can you check to see why it's always broken on new editing post ?

Ok, could You explain a little more carefully what is wrong with image?
In my opinion it should be broken when You firstly open new post, and when You set it up, then it should be ok (or after saving/updating).

The default image should not be broken, it should default to the website logo.

If I don't set it up to any image, I should see an image there (maybe some generic image) , or at the least see nothing. Why does it default to a broken image ? It"s very odd. Look at the first screen capture, you can see a question mark, which mean it cannot find the url of the image that it default to.

When I try to see what the url is, I get
Code: Select all
http://my_website_url/wp-admin/none

None ? Not even a jpg url
That is very disturbing and looks amateurish when a client sees that

Its not quite the way You tell.
The default image is not broken, and 100% it should not be set to site logo. If it is not set, Facebook (and other services that use OGTags) will search for first image in article, or show all available images and allow to chose. Setting it to logo is pointless.
So the image icon looks like "broken", but it only shows that currently there is no OG:Image set for this article.

I personally disagree, as with the 'Featured Image' area of the post editor, there shouldn't actually be anything there until you put something there, thus there should not be anything broken there, and I personally feel that as customers, if we say there's something wrong then it should be fixed rather than giving us the cliche "It's not a bug, it's a feature." routine.

As I said - setting default og:image is bad way, not from our template poin of view, but from fb application developer point of view. I can suggest that to our dev team, but probably they response will be same.
Either way, thanks for pointing that out.

Hi,

This feature will be added to the next themes release (based on GavernWP 1.8), there will be an option to set default OG image (Template Options -> Social)
