Featured articles on HP?

I have the module set to view category and show 'featured items', and to 'show only featured items', but it does not show any items. when I set 'show only featured items' to no, then I see items from the category I set. I would like to have it so I can add featured items to the HP with out having to reassign the articles to a different/special category. Is there something I am missing? Thanks.

Featured items is only for K2 content. So if you don't select K2 source articles, it will not show you anything.
