Joomla to Wordpress

Joomla is full of errors and draining my server so I am moving to wordpress.

I bought the wordpress themes so I can keep the same template.

I have over 40K in articles to transfer. What is the best way to transfer them over?

I bought wordpress software, but I don't think it was made for this many articles. It freezes and is using over 3gb ram and I have like 8 duplicates per article and its not even got to 50% of articles before it starts all over again. I contacted the software guys and they weren't much help.

I know at least two solutions.
1) Using a special script - a extension/plugin which allows to migrate content by database, it cost few dollars ..
2) Convert Joomla articles into XML and import into WP, also using a plugin
