I would like to intervene in checkout process. For instance, I want to change the background image to white and to change some text.

Can I?

Plus, feel free to suggest some changes that will improve the checkout system. the only method that customers can pay is on delivery.

I think You can add content to this page only by override at /html/com_k2store/

About the background I would try to use this code:
