Hi,

I downloaded and installed the template but it did not look like the demo in so much as the active column at the right hand side was not there. I played about with the template layout etc. but to no avail.

I then removed the site and downloaded the quick start which looks to be Joomla! complete with the template already loaded. With this I fail at the DB config screen; it fails to install sql bits and pieces.

Am I being dim or am I missing something?

I have just tried a quickstart package and there is no problems in my test installation.

All i can suggest is make sure your server meets joomla requirements as it shows in installation steps and check your database access details.

I already had Joomla! 2.5.4 installed and working. It was a clean install.

I've never played with K2 but looking at a couple of sites from users in this forum it looks like I need another plugin other than the template, is that correct? I've seen http://getk2.org?

If you are getting an error during an installation at database details stage then it is regardless of any component or plugin.

What is the actual error you see at that stage ?

No error. Just type in the db details; mysql localhost userrname password and database name and click next. It doesn't proceed.

I reckon I'll just re-install the standard Joomla! But what do I need besides the template?

It's definately an issue with the quickstart. I've just installed the standard 2.5.4 no problem.

I'll try the quickstart on a different server.

Do I need to download a K2 pluggin or something?

Then it must be related with mysql while importing tables.

Regarding K2, template doesn't have any plugin for K2, it uses standard K2 installation.

However it does have K2 style which is already inside "templates/gk_templatename/html/com_k2/" so you don't need to anything extra in terms of file transfer for K2.

You might need to adjust your K2 settings to look like our demo, such as category options, display options etc.

By the way why are you installing joomla 2.5.4 and why not 2.5.6?

Thanks for the reply.

I was messing about with it various guises 'til quite late last night.
I reckon it is the sql; maybe then sql dump is missing from the quickstart. I did try downloading it again but with the same result.

Why 2.5.4 instead of 2.5.6? : The server is BlueOnyx based with the BO-Joomla package so an easy basic install. It dumps the install files in your designated joomla directory. You then run the install as usual. Once installed, it checks for updates as Joomla 2.5 does and it updates to 2.5.6 in a few seconds.
Plugins are easy, no having to change permissions etc.

K2; no K2 settings are shown after installing the template. I assume I need to publish something but I've not yet found out what that may be.

I'll try again tomorrow afternoon hopefully.

K2 settings are as below;

Components > K2 > On top right you have parameter options.
Components > K2 > Categories > Which shows options for category layouts and so on.
Components > K2 > Items > Shows display options for item level.

Menus > New Menu item > K2 Category Type > Shows menu level category options.

You have further options on K2 Modules.

I have both unix and windows servers and I test on both So if you are using your host automatic joomla install don't use that for testing your server.

Download from joomla.org and install that and see what happens.

I'm still having problems...

I was hoping to get the template up and running as per the image and the demo.
Using the template and K2 install I've failed miserably. I'm unable to configure like the demo. Are there any wise words to download? Install sheet? Default settings sheet?

The Quickstart doesn't install on the desired server which does have Joomla! available to all domains with a tick box.
So, I've tried to install on another server which runs Joomla! 2.5.4 sites perfectly well but doesn't have a generic Joomla! installation, that is to say any domain requiring Joomla! needs to upload it complete.

I've uploaded Quickstart and it stumbles as on the original server in so much once I've entered the MySQL details and click next, it doesn't proceed. This time I get the buffering symbol (it's still doing it. Now 11:02am and it started buffering at 10:48am) where as on the other server it bounced me straight back to the same MySQL details screen.
The main differences between the servers is power. The original server described previously has and i5 CPU and 16GB RAM and the other is 775 CPU with 4GB RAM. Both running Centos, 6.3 and 5.8 respectively and PHP 5.3.3 and 5.2.17 respectively.

I have used one other template that utilises K2 and that brought up exactly what I expected as per the vendor's preview and that is on the original server that has Joomla! pre-installed.
It is a slightly earlier version of K2 and I've even tried this!

Flummoxed from Rochdale!

Many thanks for the offer but unless you've got a different install from the one I downloaded, you'll be doing the same that I did.

When I get a bit of time later, I'll look at the installation files to see which bit is tripping up.
In the mean time, I've modified the existing site template to accomodate the changes required. Not perfect but it'll do for the time being.

You can use xamp or wamp and install it in your local server and simply transfer the files and import sql in to your main website if nothing else works.

Yes, I contemplated that. I've not had a chance to look at it since my last post; I'm hoping to sneak 10 minutes today.
I'm still going to interogate the installation process to see where it's failing.

I've found the problem:

Quickstart looks to use about 22mb RAM to complete the installation. The sites' default is 16mb. I ramped it up to 32mb for this particular site and the install completed OK.

I should have realised this intially when I saw that joomla.sql and sampl-data.sql where as big as they were on Qucikstart in comparison to standard Joomla! install but trees and wood spring to mind!

I hope other find this useful.

Marking this as solved then, thanks for the info, for future reference try to increase it to 64M in case you get problems with images and modules creating thumbnails as 32M might not be enough.

I've not had any further problems but I've only just started playing with it. I'll take your advice and take it to 64mb.

All I need now is a photographer to take some good food pics....

Many thanks
