top_nav image spacing

I want to use the top_nav menu with 32 small images. The result I am getting after I expanded the top_nav area is 30 images on one line and 2 below.

I would like to reduce the spacing between images to achieve 1 line.

Also, if I can put a lighter color behind the images and above the blue line.
