2.17.1 update

Is it safe to use latest 2.17.1 update with stable 2.0.26a (or at least 2.0.26 virtuemart ? As I see in description in this recent update that only joomla 2.5.17 support added.

Please wait till official confirmation of compatibility with newest VM.
Or... you could just make a backup of site (files, database) and try to update. Some VM updates doesn't mess with frontend code, and are backward compatible. But some updates doesn't, so please check your site carefully for any bugs, and if occur, revert the changes.
Or you could just copy your site to subfolder, make update there and test if everything is ok leaving your site intact.
