Remove Message Container

How do I remove the System Message container?

There is far too much white space between the logo and menu, and the images below it.

wow this template is from middle ages.
I hoped that everyone forget about this one. He is not perfect for modern (2014) year.

It isn't a great template - but I only figured that out very far down the line.
I have been working on this design now for more than 6 hours, and it has been a huge frustration from the start.

I thought that because it is done for joomla 3, it would be a good one.
