Adding Google analytics code

I´m adding the ua-xxxx code in template features but it doesn´t seem to take effect.
Do I need to enter the code manually in layouts/default.php instead?

No, please just wait until Google collect any data from your site - usually it takes more than 24 hours. How long code is added in your site ?
