Change the register button to go to a registration component

Is it possible to change the register button to go to a registration component?

If so how can this be done?

Your question is not clear as it already uses joomla registration component.

If you mean rather then a popup you want to goto registration page then follow below.

Disable login module or change its position from "Login" to any other position from joomla administration > Extensions > Module Manager.

Then when you click on login it will open login page normal way and not popup
Same when you click on register it goes to register page.

I am not using the stock Joomla registration. I am wanting to use the templates registration button to go to my new registration component.

I can always make a menu item for it but I like the registration button in the template.
