Product filter on the update page is faulty!

Hi,

The product filter in the template update page is incorrect and fails to provide details of the recent updates.

Here is the result for Pixellove using the filter...
Product ▼ ▲ Release Date ▼ ▲ Version ▼ ▲
Pixellove for Joomla! 2.5 15/05/2012 2.9.1
Pixellove for Joomla! 2.5 10/05/2012 2.9
Pixellove for J!25 02/04/2012 2.8
Pixellove for J!25 02/03/2012 2.7
Pixellove 20/06/2011 1.0.3
Pixellove 09/06/2011 1.0.2
Pixellove 16/05/2011 1.0.1

On the subject of update information, it would seem there is an inconstancy with the information given in the template changelog and this Gavick blog post Developer Update 13 13/02/2013 which clearly states...

Many files have been modified as a result of the above fixes and enhancements, making it very important that you overwrite all template files on your site for a complete template upgrade. You will find the new updated GavickPro Open Graph Plugin in the rest_files package available on the template download page. [My emphasis.]

There were only a handful of files required for this update according to the information provided in the update notes on the template page. Which source of information is the definitive one?

It would make sense to follow the advice given in the blog - if that's so shouldn't this be made clear in the change log seeing as most people probably don't read the Gavick blog?

Hi

Can You please describe the problem one more time. I think You are talking about couple of instances of Pixellove template. It's because framework was recoded couple of times and each time newer version was named differently. Anyway the latest version is always accurate. The list of files to change it produced by github script so this should be accurate also.

Hi Teitbite,

Thanks for reply.

The first issue is that the product filter in the update area doesn't work as expected. If you select a filter for Pixellove for example you only get the update info shown in the table I dumped in the OP. There have been a number of updates since then, the last one being around the 13th of this month. The filter should be the easiest way to check the update status and staging for a given template. I actually wanted to go through all the changelogs related to pixellove to see if something may point to the errors in the template.

The second issue re running an update patch using the file list in the change log was to see what the official advice from the Gavick team is. Because a member of the team stated on the blog that all files should be over written due to the number of files effected. So what you're saying is that the part I quoted from the blog should be disregarded as mumbo jumbo? :S

I think I may play safe and pull all the files and run a diff locally, just to be sure that git hasn't suffered a case of human error. ;)

Cheers

Hi

No. You have misunderstood me. There are couple of versions of a template mentioned in updates, by version I mean a version of a framework which differs in update name not number only. Anyway different name means that almost all files were rewritten and it's better to use clean template package.

It is important to overwrite exactly files mentioned as You have seen in blog article, but not everytime You have to follow list of cahnged files exactly. Sometimes it's better to install newest version of a template again.
