Re: Installed Joomla 1.6 first then installed Quickstart package file

Hi there,

I had to install Joomla 1.6 using the QuickInstall option within cPanel on my hosting server.
Then I uploaded the ' gk_coffe_quickstart_J!16.zip ' using Extensions Manager > Install. I got
a message saying Joomla 1.6 installed. I set the Coffe template as default but unlike in previous
installations of Gavick quick start I can not see or access the Demo files.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong ?

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

It seams that you are trying to install the quickstart version with Joomla!1.6 already installed.
That's not the correct process.
Quickstart package already contains joomla and all content that we show in our demo.
You need to decompress this file and upload to your website directory were you want to install.
Create a clean database and make a normal joomla!1.6 installation.

Cheers ;)

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply, yes I did try that but I kept getting error messages ; ( after talking with the Tech Support at HostGator they told me to install Joomla 1.6 using the QuickInstall & then install the template.

I'll try it on a different domain & see if it works, is there no other way to get the demo files without the Joomla 1.6 installation within the quickstart package ?

Thanks,

Niall Kelly

They are correct by saying that you should install Joomla!1.6 using the quickstart package, but they are wrong when they say to install the template after.

QuiCKSTART = Joomla!1.6 + template + extensions + content (all together)

See this video tutorial that show how to install Pulse quickstart on J!1.5 on local server.
The process is the same for J!1.6.

You can always try to use ../installation/sql/mysql/joomla.sql as dump file and all demo content (...images), but this would need some changes in this file.

Hi there,

Thanks for the advice, I would not be confident enough with the suggestion " You can always try to use ../installation/sql/mysql/joomla.sql as dump file and all demo content (...images), but this would need some changes in this file. " but ; ( maybe in the future.

Anyway, I went back, deleted the WWW folder contents on the remote hosting server, used a different FTP software package on a PC this time & re-uploaded the unpacked quickstart files as you suggested. Also, I left the ' jos_ ' setting unchanged. The domains below both have been created !

I think when I used the G5 Mac with CyberDuck as the FTP client, the upload was corrupted or did left out some necessary files, also, I noticed, CyberDuck was changing the all the permissions on folders between the remote & local server ; ( don't think that was helping either.

btw, HostGator.com tech supports solution to my problem was to purchase a higher lever subscription from them ; (

Thanks for your help !

Hi Explodedk,

Yeah I guess we all get bad days while uploading ; ( I'm using FileZilla 3.5 on Windows 7 now & its working good for far.

Thanks,
