error on k2 items for black and white

hi just installed the template black & white - and when I try to go to any page with k2 on it I get any error message

"Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_internal_encoding() in /home/authenti/public_html/components/com_k2/helpers/route.php on line 55"

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Please enable mbstring extension in your php configuration, the mb_internal_encoding function is a part of this class.

dear friend I have php 5 but im still with the same problem
how can fix it?
