Decrease space & add a background colour

Hi,

I need help.

I would like to decrease the space between top and user 1 ... I have nothing in the other modules in between. So the space is too big ... I can only decrease the padding of the User 1, 2, 3 etc down to 1px, but the space still remains ...

In a nutshell, how do I decrease the size / padding of Top so that the User 1, 2, 3 at the bottom leaves acceptable space ...

Secondly, I want to add a blue colour to the background of User 1, 2, 3 etc ... When I do so, all I get is 3 blue blocks (meaning they leave spaces in betwneen), I want them to appear on 1 blue background as shown in my attachment. So how do I make the entire row of User 1, 2, 3 blue and not individual modules ...

Lastly, please indicate to me where / file can I tweak to decrease module sizes again ...
