top reduction

how do i reduce the space at the very top of the template?

I used firebug and altered / reduced the value

#gk-top {
min-height: 142px;
}
in template.css

all it did was bring up the black area behind the template.

can somebody please help?

Yes, sure

You need to decrease min-height , but you also need decrease in offline_style1.css margin-top value
