Gavick News Highlighter - Won't work with K2?

I first opened the Gavick News Highlighter module because I was having a problem. Everytime the thing scrolled to the next news story, it would collapse the navigation menu, making it impossible for me to navigate through my menu because the story would change and disrupt it before I could get where I was going.

So anyway, I was opening the module to see if there was a way to slow down how fast it scrolls through headlines, and I came across a different problem....this thing isn't working with K2.

The problem is that the entire template is designed to work with K2, but this module seems to only be capable of being configured with the old Section + Category method, which lies outside of k2.

So what I'm wondering is, is there any way for this thing to work with K2, or should I just remove it and look for a different highlighter? I see that there is a place to list an "article id"; will it work just the same if I enter "item id" instead?

Sorry for the long post. I'm just caught off guard to see non-k2 modules in a k2 template.

I went ahead and experimented with trying to include an "item id" instead of an "article id". That did not work, so as far as I can see this thing just doesn't work with K2. That, combined with the fact that it makes it impossible to navigate via the drop down menu, means I've got to remove it. That's a shame too. It's a nice feature and it looked nice on the page; if only it worked.
