I currently have "creative" installed on www.viciouscroc.com. I intend to switch it to "the real design." Please provide me with clear, step by step instructions on the following:

-Installing a second template after already using quickinstall to install the first.
-Changing out header images within templates
-Adding a form to sign up for a newsletter that stores the each entry into a database with fields for Name, email, and State (I want the state field to be a drop down menu)
-Embedding a youtube video on the front page
-General editing of webpage content quickly and easily through the backend (including, but not limited to: adding modules and other page elements, arranging the placements of page elements, adding modules that contain youtube videos or other flash media elements, etc.)

Hi

Looks like a full recipe on how to make a website :)

Ok for start. If You have already installed a quickstart for creative template but You want to have a different template instead the question is if You want to keep the content of the installed or need to use the demo proposition for real design template.

If You want to use the content from creative template please simply download a template package only and install it using a joomla installator.

If You want to have a demo content from real design template than it would be easier to remove the website You have now and install the full quickstart one more time. If You will make it like that than there will be no problem with content not matching module positions.

Each of the (lets call it) boxes You can see on a website is a module. You can download and install (using joomla instllator) any module You want. Here is a link where You can see what modules are available: http://extensions.joomla.org/

When You have modules choosen or You want to modificate an existing one, please simply go to modules manager, edit the one You are interested in and configure it's settings.

For example Image Show GK4 is a module for rotating slides. And here is an instruction about how to use it: https://www.gavick.com/documentation/jo ... -show-gk4/

Using modules You can embed a video (my plugin for that favourite http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... allery/812, You will find a detailed documentation on how to use it on it's developers page), add a newsletter form (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tter/10341).

If You want to rearange the modules You can use module positions map available on each demo page of our templates http://demo.gavick.com/

Thank you for your reply.

-How do I change out header images within templates?
-I will just remove the previous template. Must I remove all the files via ftp or is there a more simplified way of removing the website?
-I would like to change the predominant color of the site from white to black. How is this done?

Hi

Header images are controled by Image Show GK4 module. Please go to module manager and look for this module on the list. In this module settings You will find a way to manage slides.

If You want to remove website completly and than install a new quickstart than removing whole website folder via ftp is the fastest option.

Changing color is kind of a big deal, of course if other color styles are not provided along with template already. Unfortunately we do not support such big modifications as color changes, but using Firebug (plugin for firefox) You will be able to locate an element in code (firebug will tell You an exact file location and line). Having element located in code and with a basic knowledge of CSS You will be able to change any element. Additionaly in rest_files package You will find a psd source file with images of website elements.

I have the penguinmail template installed on www.viciouscroc.com/penguin. The Image Show GK4 module was not preinstalled so it was not controlling the header image. I have it installed now, but it just creates a second header image under the main one. How do I control the main header image?

I actually found the module that controls this: mod_tabs_gks, but it looks like all the images that are displayed have transparency and just overlay on top of a blue background. How do I change the color of this background from blue? Would this change have to be done through CSS?

Hi

Yes Pinguinmail is an exception where slides are being covered by GK Tabs module and not Image Show as I mentioned when we were talking about Creative template. Anyway You can still replace this module and use Image Show GK4 instead of Tabs GK4. It will be easier to manage slides. GK Tabs can display modules or HTML code, so it can be used for much more than slides and require more preparation from user itself.
