email function in k2 articles not working

We have two problems with the global email. When a viewer chooses to email
and fills out their information and sends the system reply is: Email could not be sent.

We have included the admin email in system configuration and still have
this problem. Please provide a solution, advice, hope.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Please update joomla and k2 to latest version to exclude a bug from one of them. Next please tell me what PHP version are You using ?
