Very Bad - Issue with modules controlling whether other modules show

Houston - we have a problem!

Unless you have something published to the right_bottom, top, or inset positions, the entire bottom half of the template will not show - this includes the footer module positions, user positions, etc. (I am sure that other module positions that are on the block that shows these three are also part of this issue... I'm just not going to spend the time and energy finding every combination that will turn off the rest of my site. I spent 3 hours trying to figure out why the modules refused to show, and its cost me a lot of time and effort trying to realize that we can not use this template now)

I've got the most recent version (1.0.12) of the template installed...

Recreate this by creating a page on your site, and publish ONLY a footer, user, etc. to the template.

yup... looks like if one of the modules in the "default" block isn't published, the rest of the template completely stops working...
