If so many of you can't make css updates to create your own light version/customized template - how about we start a thread so you can ask questions and the members that know can answer and help you.

You'll be able to learn how to do it yourself for the future and at the same time you'll get to customize your own template for your project.

If anyone is interested, I'll create the thread and provide guidance.

@ThatComputerDude: That's not the topic. I could do it by myself but Seichinha said that he will release a Light Version. And I think Seichinha has more skills and knows better the template than me.

I'm trying to help others so they don't have to rely on others to provide customized templates for them, since some of these people are in a hurry. I can't help laziness though.

you call it laziness, I call it wasting time. As example I spend my time for making a light version and then after this Seichinha will release his version. If his work is better than my I can put away my version.

This isn't a Gavick offering, he's simply doing it in his free time to offer something extra. He has no obligation to answer questions or requests about what he's doing. So since people seem to be in a hurry to get a Light version, I'm offering an alternative so they can kill 2 birds with 1 stone - get a customized template and learn how to do it so they can do it themselves.

Maybe yours would turn out just as good if you got help from some of us other developers willing to help out other community members.

I'm simply trying to help some of you, I apologize if it hit a nerve.

It's a good idea that you will do this. I will not criticize that. I said only doing it by myself ist not the best solution.

Yes, and we all know that it's a free time project but nevertheless it would be nice to get any information. We not even know if the light version is cancelled or not.

I have a project that I'm working on tomorrow where I'm going to take a template and customize it to fit a custom design we did.

I'm going to create some video's of the process we follow to help show people 1 way to do it.

When I first started this request I was emailed that yes it would be developed for us and Paulo started the process, we get screen grabs and I start planning the development around this light version, Then suddenly donlexo joins the forum and starts talking about CAR MAGAZINE and everything stops

I started a thread in this forum. I was going to make some how-to videos yesterday but didn't get to work on the project because of some meetings. I'll have a few how-to videos tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can post questions in that thread or start a discussion on what you want to know or explain to others.


One thing to keep in mind, this "Light" theme that is being discussed in this thread is NOT a Gavick offering, it's someone doing it on their own to share with everyone. So lets not take the frustration out on the Gavick Team and try to understand maybe some things came up that delayed this personal project, one he didn't have to share with us anyways.

Touching on some comments throughout this thread, lots of talk of always doing a dark and light theme.

I love your designs, and you can see the attention being paid to the small details.....I however believe that all of the design this year have been taken to the extremes of light or dark....there doesn't seem to be an in-between. I've been developing websites for over 10 years now and there are not many templates that I believe I could have used as is for ANY of the clients that I have developed websites for, as they are either to light or to dark.

As I said, I love your designs, but I believe there is always a lot of work involved to style your sites for commercial purposes. One template that is a mixture of dark and light is Car Magazine. I have read many people reference this design as an example of a site that you should do more of.

I can see that the designs of 2010 are trying to break the normal boundary's of a typical website, fixed width design with fixed and very noticeable borders etc. I do appreciate that you look outside of these boundary's.

I would like to some templates that use both light and dark...and if this is done correctly, then there will be NO need to create a light and dark theme, as you will have both in one design.

Use of more color would be nice as well, but to much color can make the site look limited to a certain market for the in experienced web developer....

Yes we can create our own styles etc, but for me, I choose to use templates so that I don't have to spend to much time on the template, thus reducing the cost of sites I develop and reducing how long I spend on each project.

EDIT: One last thing, the other problem I see with the light themes of recent, you have to have a relatively new LCD, LED, etc screen to see the different light shades you use. Older screens simply can't show a higher enough contrast. On many screens you can't see any difference between the light shades you use in MyStore for example... whether or not this matters, I just thought I would mention it...

I more stumbled upon this topic while I searched for the JomSocial coupon, as you may know. I have read all the pages and I think it would be very nice for all the people here in the forum to just know if you will release it still or not. I know you may have your reasons to not release information, but it will make a lot of people either happy to know that this light version will be released or they hear from first hand that this may not be possible anymore.
