where do i put my canonical tag

Where should i put my canonical tag. i have had my hosting company sort out a redirect as google was seeing my site as http://www.in2town.co.uk and also in2town.co.uk so they sorted it out for me, but they said i need to add the following to my site but i have put it in the head but it is not showing up when i look at the source file and it is not showing up when i run a seo report, can anyone please let me know where to put this in my joomla 3.1 website

hi after spending hours trying to sort it out i got a friend to sort it out for me and i need to ask him how he done it as i spent hours trying to get it to work, will post an update on here

in2town would you be so kind to tell us how to manage to solve this problem?
I've been loosing days and days but nobody is able to help me.
