image advice please

Hi, i am after some advice. i have noticed in the admin area under the k2 items, i have under the image next to hits and modified titles, some images showing on articles and on other i do not have any images showing.

I hope you understand what i am trying to say, what i am wanting to find out is, how come under the k2 items in the admin area, i have some article titles showing an image and other articles titles not showing an image, and also what is this image section for and what can it do for me
