Hi Don,
I was wondering why the name sounded familiar. Were you part of their staff then? I don't recall now because I got busy and has not been as active in Joomlart since 2010.
I only used mainly the Teline series since I was a member there all the way back in 2007. I invested a lot of time in customizing Teline II, but since the came up with the T3 format, they de-emphasized older templates not based on that format, including Teline II. The next version, Teline III was so slow, even if I did not use the JA News module and really stripped the frontpage. The Teline IV was a great improvement, but there were so many unresolved issues until early last year, so I decided to stay with Teline II.
They gave me hope that they will upgrade Teline II to be compatible with the latest Joomla. They did no do it with Joomla 1.6. In one response by Hung, it appears that he was not interested in doing so -- contrary to what the staff and moderators were saying in the forum.
After Joomla stopped supporting Joomla 1.5 and focused on Joomla 2.5, Teline II was never upgraded. So, I was forced to looked elsewhere.
I used the Gavick News template in early 2008 and I like row the modular format of the modules, basically using a common module with slight CSS changes to create other modules. However, at the time, in one of my correspondence with the head designer of Gavick, he said he was not interested in developing a News-Magazine template. I was still a Joomlart subscriber (Developer member) at the time and Teline II was released in May 2008. In my opinion, Teline II was the best news-magazine template in 2008, so I focused my attention on Teline II.
I saw the release of the first "The Wold News" in 2010 (???), and I liked it but I got too busy so I never had a chance to try it. Thus, when I was looking for an alternative to Teline II, Gavick's The World News II was one of my choices. U looked elsewhere, but I was just not as enthused with the other choices.
The other attraction was the "lifetime" subscription. Since, I essentially use only one template and customize them for specific sites, I do not need all the monthly templates coming out. Joomlart told me that they do not have any plans to offer a comparable subscription anytime soon, so here I am.
I almost did not re-join Gavick, because like Joomlart, Gavick also does not update older templates (like the 2010 TWN -- when I browsed the status of the older templates. My concern is that, if Gavick simply stops updating TWNII because they came out with a newer TWN III, then I would have lost all the time, effort and money invested in customizing TWN II. The value of a lifetime subscription is greatly diminished.
The Gavick rep who I had chat with, was not as reassuring. I requested her to relay my inquiry but I am not sure she did that.
