Some information about JomSocial + ccBoard

Announced later this year JomSocial next version 2.4 has introduced several new solutions. From 2 months, developers are working intensively on the changes in the photo galleries. Photographs will now be more exposed and more easily available, as well as changes to a mechanism for adding them (something like known from JCE 2.0.x – based on HTML5).

Yesterday I discussed from our marketing department in a publishing house where I work, we have come to a common conclusion that, in some cases the Group – from JomSocial component are not very intuitive for the average user who may feel lost in this structure. In our case it was for an intranet, which I built and I develop for some time. Actually modifying groups to remind those familiar from such popular social networking site from Poland GoldenLine.pl – is too labor intensive and requires a good knowledge of PHP, not to mention the fact that after the close (difficult), then the way to update the extension.

Probably also because in our project, I used a simple component ccBoard forum (http://codeclassic.org), who recently (in August) has been updated to version 1.3. Here I do not have to worry about the trolls, and spammers – because the team is harmonious, and no one from outside will have access to the platform. Fortunately, ccBoard has been equipped with Captcha support from the early realeases onwards to restrict spam and also has got Bad words filter.

In addition, also for free you can download the necessary modules (lastest post, topic and popular post), and the two plugins.

The component is simple to use, and modification of its appearance, an additional component allows you to subscribe to topics or create sections only for users with higher privileges. Of course, this forum can not match with Kunena or Agora Forum. Of course he works with JomSocial and CB profiles. The only flaw for many may be that only works with J1.5. There is currently no version for Joomla 1.7. Looking at the rate of change in this project, I doubt that will soon be an updated version.
