If you decided to build your company’s intranet site using Joomla! you must remember several important things that you can easily miss in a hurry to install and configure. Safety first.
- If you can restrict the list of IP adrrsów guaranteeing access to the site – at least for the admin.
- View for not logged should present ONLY the login module – for Joomla! 1.5 I have used the extension called “Meta Template” see on the JED or the manufacturer’s website (metamodpro.com). Even the free version should satisfy your expectations. Take an extra mini template module with one position – where you give the login screen.
- All menu items – should also be available only for logged.
- You use only 100% legal version of extensions, I suppose that the company stand to spend $99 than pay later for “leaks.”
- Never share your files very important for the company as regular attachments, they are too valuable data, it is better to give that info, for example, the file only has Mrs. Sophie. Because you never have 100% certainty. You can also use Akeeba Release System or more popular DocMan for example- which allows you to assign access permissions to the file.
- Install the component to track user activities (eg. SCOUT Activity log), pity that so far are only for Joomla! 1.5. Although such AdminPraise3 – has similar units already operating under the Joomla! 1.6 (1.7).
- Modify the look of the standard errors (error 403, error 404) familiar with Joomla.
- Share specific folders with valuable files only strictly selected IP addresses. Not every person in his house must have access to them.
- Never place the flyers and other advertising materials intranet URL of your company, this information is only for employees.
- You can disable specific items such as menus at certain times (at night – when hackers don’t sleep).
- Install the component to protect the site (eg Akeeba Admin Tool, RSFirewall!) – In accordance with generally weak better than none.
- The JCE editor from the front off the options for deleting and editing a file and folder names, you know sometimes people can unwittingly spoil anything.
