First of all, programmers from Azurl have released an update to JomSocial 1.6, JomSocial 1.8 and JomSocial 2.0 to address a security issue found recently. This patch addresses an issue where attackers might be able to execute arbitrary Javascripts (XSS Injection). That’s why I also recommend to apply the patch immediately.
Second, as we all know current toolbar for JomSocial isn’t ideal, maybe because JomSocial was originally designed so that it can fit within 650-pixel wide site. There are simply not enough space to fit links to all items. Probably that’s why many people have tried to change (improve) this menu. The JomSocial Extended Toolbar (gabrielholley.com) is one of some JomSocial plugin to extend the possibilities and control of the standard JomSocial toolbar. Plugin developed by Gabriel Holley gives you the ability to switch on and off specific menu tabs and menu items in the JomSocial tool bar.
Also added are 4 new menu tabs to make core JomSocial features more accessible. Even more so, you can add a Joomla menu to the toolbar, isn’t great. Each and every link on the JomSocial toolbar, as well as the menus added by this plugin, can be disabled and enabled in the plugins parameters (or Joomla menu manager when using a Joomla menu).
In December Azurl company, on blog, asked people how to improve JomSocial toolbar. There is so many ideas by now. Because nobody wants to have two toolbars (1 joomla and 1 jomsocial) like now we have. I think that will be great to can have a Toolbar module that we can put on every Joomla page, similar than a normal module, with all jomsocial links. I read that Azurl plan is to allow you to manage it in the same way you manage normal Joomla menu items. So in the next version, we probably will see toolbar totally integrated within Joomla.
