I wanted to bulid an Ecology website. Worthy idea, worse with the implementation of this type of project. Finding the right template is not a problem, much harder to find the extension (eg modules) that are related to ecology, in addition to displaying the weather.
Joomla extension for ecology project
I have searched JED under several phrases that I associated with ecology, only what I found was a Solar Calculator. This is a calculation tool for Performance, Cost and Loan of any photovoltaic system. Based on the parameters entered by the user, such as area (county or post code), roof type, orientation, roof surface … the system of calculation can produce results as: Power System (KW), Expected Annual Return (KWh), Expected Revenue / year (euro) Total Cost (euro) Expected Amortization of Investment (years).
A little strange I thought no more of this type of script such as calculators. Thus, my search had to go beyond the official collection of JED (extensions.joomla.org). After several seconds I have found – Carbon footprint calculator (carbonfootprint.com) which was based on annual emissions from the previous 12 months. The calculations for secondary emissions are based on estimates developed by Carbon Footprint to illustrate the impact on the environment from your day-to-day activities. This is a measure of the emissions caused through the manufacture, delivery and disposal of products and services we buy. See Demo, and get a code to paste into your own website, allowing your visitors to calculator their carbon emissions without having to leave your site.
In turn, the H2O Conserve Water Footprint Calculator (h2oconserve.org/wc.php) is an interactive tool designed to help you quantify how much water you use, find out how you use it and what you can do to conserve. The Calculator takes into account not only the water used in your home, but also the water used to produce the food you eat, the products you buy, the energy you consume, and even the water saved when you recycle. This script uses data from the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Energy Information Administration, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and several other sources to calculate an individual’s water footprints.
Similar types of calculators can also be found at:

- epa.gov/WaterSense/calculate_your_water_savings.html
I think that over time, see a lot more scripts that will help to build this type of ecological sites. Of course not forgetting that the most important action is to protect the environment in which we all live.
