Menu does not work too ?

Seems, there is an issue either with my installation or I am blind not finding the settings:

I have set-up a two level menu. But the second (child) level just carries the same content as the parent - they all s´how the same modules as the parents, even if I have not assigned them to that menu item. I cannot put any content type to that secobd menu level, unless I move the item to the top level. Then it behaves normal.

Any idea, what could be wrong ?
