Remove hash from the link

I used anchor link in the menu as shown in the demo. It work perfectly as it will scroll down to the particular section.

For example, "www.domain.com" is change to "www.domain.com/#special".

Is there anyway to remove the # from the link and just display "www.domain.com".
I have also noticed that not only the steakhouse theme has that #. I would like to check is there any method or plugin that I can use to remove the # for other themes as well.
