Flexicontent and News Highlighter

Hello,

I am working with FlexiContent and the GK News Highlighter. I am running into a problem. Flexicontent allows for placing articles into multiple categories, something that is very important to the site. However this is causing a problem, News Highlighter isn't picking this up and is only displaying items who's categories appear in the preferred categories and not in the secondary categories.

Is there any way to work around this. I have tried to input the category id's directly into News Highlighter but that proves no help. Or am I doing something wrong? The other GK modules seem to work just fine with Flexicontent.
