How do I set up the fest homepage to have the exact same functionality as the homepage in the live demo?

If you didn't install the quickstart pacakge, you should configure widgets properly, because homepage in the Fest theme is based on widgets. Please check this configuration page:

Installing the quickstart is like installing wordpress. In the section "Downloading and Unzipping WordPress" please use our quickstart package.

If you will still have problems with that, please give me more details, with which step do you have problems.

I've tried setting up more speakers through the speakers tab but every time I click on one the speakers thumbnails, it opens in a regular blog post type of format, not in the way it is displayed in the dummy content. Could you tell me where I might be going wrong.

Figured it out. Another problem I am having though is removing the circular format that the speaker thumbnails appear in on the homepage. Is it possible to change that?

It will be difficullt. You can use this code (add it into css/override.css file - first enable override option from Template Options -> Advanced tab):

Theres a whole bunch of things that I need to change around with this theme. Would you be open to doing some custom work on the theme? For a fee of course. Because, I need to make changes urgently and alot if not most of them are related to the plugins and I can barely do basic html properly , if that. Most importanty, right now I need to change the colour scheme of the entire site and disable the switching between the 3 colour schemes that is part of the footer. Apologies if I have overlooked some things in the theme options as I am in quite a big hurry and I am very new to these things.

Style(color) switcher you can disabled in your Fest -> Template Options -> Features tab and "Style Switcher Display" option.

I did the style switcher thing. Should really have figured that by myself. I will get back to you on the custom work shortly, after discussing with my colleague. In the meantime, I am looking to insert an image slider on my homepage. I know this can be done by installing custom widgets/plugins. Is there one that you have that I can purchase or is there one that you can recommend, that works well with this theme.

Done the slider. I need to put in a instagram button instead of either the google plus or the rss button in the header. What is the quickest and easiest way to do so? Also for the speakers, when I try and add a custom field for the facebook link or website link, it does not show up on the page. What could i be doing wrong? For the speaker posts that were in the dummy content also the, it does not show up anymore.

I need to see your website to help you with that, you can send me a PM with the URL. Regarding the custom fields, please check if this option is not disabled in Template Options -> Advanced tab.
Regarding the instagram button - unfortunately this social widget doesn't allow to use another button, but you may find a lot of other plugins/widgets with the needed social buttons.
